Connecting GPs & Psychologists

Get Started with Axis

WHAT IS AXIS?

Axis is Studio Mindspace’s integrated ADHD care framework designed to connect GPs and psychologists through structured screening, referral, and shared clinical governance.

Developed in line with the AADPA Clinical Practice Guidelines (2022) and the New Zealand Ministry of Health Clinical Principles Framework (2024), Axis brings clarity and confidence to ADHD management in primary care.

It provides the tools and pathways needed for GPs to safely recognise
ADHD-consistent presentations, use validated psychometric screening tools, and collaborate seamlessly with clinical psychologists for diagnostic and treatment support.

THE AXIS GP PATHWAY

Axis follows a clear, five-step process that supports ethical and efficient ADHD care within general practice.

Six-Step Summary:

Step 5 — Integrated Feedback and Care Loop

When a GP recognises ADHD-consistent patterns such as chronic disorganisation, inattention, impulsivity, emotional dysregulation, or time blindness, they open the Axis Portal

Tools provided:
  • Quick Reference Guide: visual summary of ADHD symptoms and differential red flags
  • Printable Patient Information Sheet explaining assessment purpose and consent
  • Optional “Rule Out” checklist for alternate causes (thyroid, anaemia, sleep, mood, substance use)

Once assessment or consultation is complete, Axis provides:

  • Diagnostic summary and formulation
  • GP Guidance Sheet outlining next steps and medication readiness
  • Plain-language Patient Summary Letter

Step 4 — Select the Referral Pathway

Choose the most appropriate referral stream:

Real-Time Consult

Axis Consult or Memo Option

Full Assessment

  • Live 45 minute telehealth session with a Studio Mindspace psychologist.
  • Clear ADHD features with mild complexity; GP seeking confirmation or brief input.
  • Within 1 week

  • Written specialist opinion summarising screening data, diagnostic impression, and next-step recommendations.
  • GP requires documentation for medication initiation, ACC, or insurer.
  • 3-5 working days

  • Comprehensive ADHD assessment (2–3 sessions) using DIVA-5 and multi-measure psychometrics.
  • Complex, comorbid, or unclear presentations; trauma or diagnostic uncertainty.
  • 3-4 weeks

Step 3 — Patient Pre-Assessment (Out-of-Session)

For Amber or Red outcomes, the GP clicks “Send Pre-Assessment Link.”

The patient receives a secure digital invitation to complete a structured psychometric bundle at home.

Included tools:
  • ADHD: ASRS v1.1 Full Scale, WURS-25
  • Executive Function: ESQ-R, BRIEF-A (when indicated)
  • Emotion Regulation: DERS-16
  • Impulsivity: UPPS-P Short
  • Mood / Trauma: DASS-21, PCL-5
  • Optional: Sleep Quality, Hormonal Factors, Neurodevelopmental History

All data populate a Clinical Dashboard accessible to the referring GP and Studio Mindspace clinicians.

Results include percentile mapping and qualitative commentary to assist triage.

Step 1 — Initial Identification

Step 6 — Care Loop

  • Axis supports ongoing collaboration between GP and psychologist.
  • Patients may be referred to Executive Function Coaching, ADHD Group Programmes, or MediMinds Collaborative Care.
  • All data and reports are securely transmitted via encrypted PDF or direct PMS upload.

Step 2 — In-Session Screening with NeuroTap®

NeuroTap® is Studio Mindspace’s signature psychology-designed system that helps people manage focus, organisation, and daily transitions with greater ease. It uses small NFC tap-to-run dots that can be placed in everyday locations such as a desk, car, or clinic room.

Within Axis, each GP consultation includes a dedicated NeuroTap® screening dot. When tapped with a phone, it securely launches the in-session screening form, guiding both clinician and patient through structured questions covering ADHD symptoms, emotional regulation, trauma, sleep, hormonal factors, and functional impact.

NeuroTap® turns the screening into a seamless, interactive process. When the screening is complete, a light activates in the Axis Portal, indicating that results are ready to review.

Domains covered:
  • ADHD core symptoms (ASRS-Short Form)
  • Emotional regulation and mood (DASS-21 Short)
  • Trauma and stress indicators (PCL-5 Brief)
  • Substance use and sleep
  • Hormonal or neuro-endocrine contributors (e.g. menopause, post-partum, PMDD)
  • Head-injury and medical factors
  • Functional impairment prompts (work, home, relationships)

At completion, an instant summary dashboard appears with an evidence-based recommendation:

Green | Mild indicators suitable for GP management with psychoeducation | Provide self-management resources

Amber | Moderate symptoms or comorbidity | Refer for Studio Mindspace Consult or Memo

Red | Complex or high-risk presentation | Refer for Full ADHD Assessment
